Summer swelter, girlpower & the hustle

Onikas Family WOW is this a super hot summer or what?!!  Our home cities of Austin (Jonnyka), and Miami (Veronica), are sweltering cauldrons of humidity and relentless sun.  Luckily Veronica has the ocean a few blocks from her abode while Jonnyka has chilly Barton Springs nearby for momentary relief but still... We just wrapped up the Miami Swim Week where we were one of the brands invited to participate in The Standard hotel's Swim Souk. This exclusive Moroccan themed event featured four emerging indie brands: The Onikas, Nikben, Lilibon and Kult Jewelry.  We were honored to be included and made many new customers and friends.  The chance to meet and personally get to know the women who purchase our goods is always a treat, and especially so in such a lush setting! Ever since we started The Onikas, we have marveled at the overwhelming support from the women we meet. Nothing makes us happier then dressing our inspirational muses who exude brilliant feminine energy.  We channel all of this girlpower into the designs of all our collections.  Our aim is to add more beauty, ease and effortless style for all women. Almost all of our items are free size so they fit multiple body types and lifestyles. We believe that our beautiful handmade textiles should be accessible to all women, not only waif girls or statuesque models.  For this reason we have "real" women - many of them Veronica's Miami soul sisters - model our collections.  We like to relate to the women we dress as we grow our Onikas community. So many of our customers come from friends of friends, and for this we are grateful every day! While this sisterhood is organically growing our brand, the truth is it takes major hustle - and we're not talking the groovy dance from the 70's!  The hustle is super real in Onikas world!  We are working all the time, often it involves networking at glam events like the aforementioned Standard soirée, but as we all know social media posts tend to highlight the glossy and obscure the long hours behind it. Miami Swim Week was a total blast but we were  working 90% of the time because we believe in what we are doing.  Sometimes in the adrenaline of said hustle we have to pause, take a moment, acknowledge, and catch our breath.  For us this means utilizing self care tools like silently chanting a mantra or eating a healthy meal. We know every "small" business owner (see our previous post) experiences this state of always being ON!  It feels good to simply acknowledge it, release it, and then promptly go jump in the ocean or cool springs for a well-deserved rest and recharge!!
